The imposition of caps and quotas for economic migration have heralded the most significant immigration challenge to UK employers and immigration practitioners since the advent of the Points Based System in 2008. The drive for a permanent annual limit on economic migration, by the coalition government continues to create barriers across all industries. The removal of the Tier 1 (General) supply led route of entry to the UK and the focus on employer led sponsorship under Tier 2 with myriad compliance obligations, has presented significant strategic management challenges for immigration practitioners and employers.

In the United States, President Obama has brought the immigration debate to the top of the agenda in advance of the 2012 elections. He has described the immigration system as “broken” and reiterated a commitment to comprehensive immigration reform that strengthens security at the borders and restores accountability.

This annual business immigration conference, in association with the BritishAmerican Business, will have high level speakers from UK Border Agency (UKBA), Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) and the US Embassy. The following issues will be addressed:-

• The current UK immigration landscape
• Changes to the points based system in 2011
• The outlook for 2012
• The results of MAC and UKBA consultations
• An update from the US Embassy, London
• Changes to the US immigration system

Confirmed Speakers Include:

  • Mark Franks, Head of Secretariat, Migration Advisory Committee
  • Stephen Maltby, Partner, Gibney, Anthony & Flaherty LLP, New York
