BritishAmerican Buisness CEO, Duncan Edwards has welcomed amendments made to the UK Government’s proposed Foreign Influence Registration Scheme.

The amendments remove the registration requirement for the large majority of those working for foreign companies, universities and charities. BAB has worked hard on behalf of business to help achieve these amendments.

Commenting on the proposed changes, Duncan said:

“From what we have seen so far, the amendments to the National Security Bill concerning the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme are very encouraging.

“We understand registration will be limited to engagement with the UK government which is specifically directed by a foreign power, thus removing the need to register for American companies.

“If this is the case, then we would certainly thank the Minister and Home Office team for listening to our concerns and responding.  This would have created an unnecessary and pointless barrier to discussions with major investors in the UK economy.”

The National Security Bill is due for another sitting in the House of Lords March at the beginning of March. BAB will continue to advocate for these amendments.
