BAB has offices in New York, London and Washington, D.C.  We offer a collaborative, flexible, inclusive and exciting place to work!  BAB offers a hybrid working model offering employees a mixture of remote and in-office work.  BAB’s New York office is home to about one dozen full-time employees and is centrally located, adjacent to Grand Central Terminal.

Position Summary

In this exciting role, you will become part of one of the most prominent transatlantic trade and business organizations whose mission is to strengthen the economic corridor between the US and the UK. Based in Washington DC, you will play an important role in helping to inform and implement BAB’s policy & trade portfolio, with emphasis on building and implementing BAB’s policy advocacy activities, membership engagement and increasing our stakeholder network, particularly in Congress.

Main Responsibilities

Sub-Committee Management/ Portfolio Lead

  • Lead for specific workstreams, including BAB’s Aerospace & Defense (areas of focus include AUKUS and US-UK space collaboration, among others)) and Competition & Innovation (areas of focus include IP, Tax, Competitiveness (with focus on life sciences, among others)) and management of BAB’s Sub-Committees in these areas.

Legislative Monitoring

  • Monitoring US legislation, hearings, and other policy-related developments relevant to all BAB workstreams and Policy Agenda priorities.

Engagement with Congress

  • Lead on BAB’s engagement with staffers in House and Senate offices relevant to BAB’s policy priorities.

Content production

  • Lead in the production of white papers, policy papers, statements, and publications, related to the assigned portfolio.
  • Lead in the preparation of briefs, talking points, background documents, and written summaries.

Membership/Industry Relations

  • Support of the membership/business team on the engagement/ retention/recruitment of relevant and future member companies in the BAB Policy Group.

Stakeholder Management

  • Expansion and management of relevant internal and external policy stakeholder lists for the US
  • Attending and representing BAB at internal and external meetings and events with members and stakeholders
  • Coordination of delegation visits and local engagements for internal and external stakeholders.

Events & briefings

  • Support of execution of BAB events in DC, meetings/briefings and BAB participation in external forums.

The Candidate

This is a Policy Manager level position within the organization, ideally suited for someone with at least 3+ years of professional experience in a field related to BAB’s activities, which include Parliament/Congress, government, think tanks, business, business consultancy, and business/ trade associations. We are looking for someone interested in becoming a subject matter lead on assigned policy areas, and who can help monitor and track legislative developments across all areas in the BAB Policy Agenda.  A successful candidate is someone who can work independently, with an entrepreneurial spirit to help us identify new growth opportunities for the team and our work. The role will provide great opportunities to quickly grow skills and responsibilities in the policy space, stakeholder management, project management, external affairs, and working with the Hill. To perform the job successfully, an individual must:

  • Be curious, motivated, proactive self-starter, and able to handle multiple tasks in super-fast paced environment.
  • Be excited to grow professionally and to help make BAB a visible and relevant organization in the space.
  • Work independently (as part of a small team), show good judgment, especially on decision-making processes
  • Have a strong ability to draft and write policy documents
  • Have experience in managing stakeholder (lists), and the preparation of (policy) meetings and events
  • Always looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
  • Be equipped to prepare and execute briefings and meetings, as well as liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and know how to embrace challenging situations
  • Have confidence to represent BAB with internal and external stakeholders.

Educational And Experience Requirements

  • BA degree in a related field. An MA degree is a plus.
  • At least 3+ years of previous professional experience in a related field such as Government, trade/business association, think tanks, business consultancy, Parliament/Congress. To note: Candidates with less professional experience but strong profile are still encouraged to apply and may be considered for a different role.
  • Familiarity with working with the Hill and an existing network with Congressional offices is a plus.
