Zach Helzer
Senior Director for Europe & Head U.S.- UK Business Council, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Zach brings extensive experience to the Chamber’s International Division, driving commerce and shaping policies between the US, UK, EU, and China. Throughout his career, he has fostered innovation, created jobs, and strengthened alliances while safeguarding technological and scientific interests.
Before joining the Chamber last summer, Zach was the Senior Trade and Investment Officer at the British Embassy in Washington. He played a crucial role in delivering nearly $1 billion in trade and investment deals between the US and UK, impacting COVID-19 supply chains, NHS capacity, and biopharma research.
Working closely with the White House, No. 10, and other key stakeholders, Zach spearheaded high-profile initiatives that generated substantial engagement and social media activity. He raised global awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through contributions to the G20 and promoted industry sustainability efforts around COP26. Additionally, he organized high-level visits involving members of the Cabinet, Congress, and Parliament, and strengthened US-UK defense health ties between the Pentagon and MoD.
In his current role, Zach coordinates Chamber policy and advocacy on EU digital, health, and trade issues. He leads the US-UK Business Council and manages the Chamber’s relationships with Ireland, the Netherlands, and Nordic and Baltic countries. His personal story of resilience, dedication to customer service, and proven track record in association member relations and business development enhance his impact on the Europe team.
Previously, Zach led the China portfolio at AdvaMed during the Obama and Trump Administrations, promoting US-China relations in the medical devices sector. He also coordinated regulatory and standards advocacy for Siemens Healthcare globally and led the international program at MITA, the medical imaging trade association.
Zach holds a master’s degree in international studies from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Metropolitan State University of Denver. He, along with his wife Kailey and son Reece, calls Washington, DC home.
