Modern Savile Row Style in NYC

The history of Savile Row reaches back hundreds of years. Cad & The Dandy is privileged to continue the well-established reputation of bespoke tailoring with a style that combines the tradition and craftsmanship of Savile Row with a contemporary and elegant house cut.  A natural shoulder and a more pronounced waist, creating an elegant but equally comfortable garment.  A modern interpretation of classic English style.

With only two other Savile Row brands crossing the pond, and only one other with a stand-alone ready-to-wear shop, Cad & The Dandy provides a rare experience to explore Savile Row heritage on Billionaire’s Row.

“At Cad & The Dandy, we have become known as a house with a truly defined style, making garments by hand with exceptional skill that are both elegant and easy to wear whether that be bespoke or our ready to wear.

The opportunity to expand into New York with our second premises in the city is an exciting step for the brand and I hope this becomes one of many new shops in our planned company expansion,” explains Co-owner of Cad & The Dandy, James Sleater.   Hear more about how the world of tailoring has changed here.

“Our collection is curated to embrace the elegance of classic English style, made by hand and without compromise” says Co-owner of Cad & The Dandy, Ian Meiers.  “We take pride in offering a distinct alternative to the prevailing Italian-influenced designs often found in New York. Our garments epitomize traditional English tailoring with more structure, shape and impeccable attention to detail. This collection is a testament to our commitment to preserving our tailoring heritage while offering a sophisticated and contemporary choice.”

In 2021, Cad & The Dandy introduced their Ready-to-Wear line and opened a store in London, their second on Savile Row, soon after selling a meticulously designed collection of garments ranging from formalwear, business and everyday suiting, outerwear, knitwear, shirting and elevated casualwear.  Made by the same hands that craft their bespoke garments, the brand’s goal was to bring their house style to a wider audience, whilst developing the offering to suit the changing tastes.

“Every ready-to-wear garment from Cad & The Dandy is made by hand, something we take enormous pride in. When launching our Ready-to-Wear collection in 2021, we only knew one thing, bespoke, and that’s how we have approached our latest collection.  Each garment is made the old-fashioned way: hand padded lapels, hand sewn collar, working buttonholes and fully canvassed, all made by hand. Something almost unique to any brand in the world,” explains Creative Director of Cad & The Dandy, Oliver Mumby.

“The ready-to-wear store will be an excellent complement to our full bespoke experience. For the client that needs something on a shorter timeline, it’s a viable alternative.  As well as offering a huge array of visual inspiration with the ever-changing seasonal designs on show,” explains Managing Director USA of Cad & The Dandy, Steve Knorsch.  “Current bespoke customers will now have the ability to augment their wardrobes with ready-to-wear items such as knitwear, suedes, etc., from the source and not compromise on the quality they are used to.”

Cad & The Dandy’s approach to menswear emphasizes the importance of creating garments that are not only stylish but also versatile and enduring. By focusing on classic yet contemporary tailoring, it ensures that each piece in the collection stands the test of time, both in terms of style and quality.  They understand that true elegance is about more than just following trends, it’s about creating clothing that can be worn across different seasons and still look impeccable. This is achieved through careful selection of fabrics and designs that are both durable and adaptable, allowing the wearer to transition seamlessly from one season to the next.

The tonal color range featured in Cad & The Dandy’s collections further enhances the timelessness of their clothing. By focusing on a palette of classic, understated tones, the brand creates pieces that are versatile and easy to incorporate into any wardrobe. Their focus is on wardrobe building, working with a client to slowly develop a collection of classic, core garments… to “dress in the dark.”

“We are an English tailor with worldly style. Every new brand professes to honor the lightweight, relaxed style of Italy, but we seek to continue the English heritage, with just a touch of Italian comfort. Our unique blend of tradition and ease creates garments that are not only exquisitely tailored but also exceptionally wearable,” adds Mumby.

Cad & The Dandy was founded by Ian Meiers and James Sleater in 2008.  It is the youngest and now the largest tailoring house on Savile Row.  Their uncompromising approach to designing and crafting British bespoke suits with a house style more fitted and contemporary than traditional Savile Row, has garnered a loyal following from sartorial enthusiasts, including The Royal Family and Hollywood elite. Locations in New York, London and Stockholm, and trunk shows frequently in Boston and Washington D.C provide unparalleled service anywhere in the world.  To schedule an appointment, contact nyc@cadandthedandy.com or 1-917-400-4804.  Instagram; Facebook; YouTube; Pinterest and Twitter.  Press Contact: squinn.glow@me.com, 207-781-2598.
