Steve Varley, Global Vice-Chair, Sustainability, Ernst & Young LLP

 

 

Steve will spearhead EY’s contribution globally on the crucial topic of Sustainability. Globally EY is a $36bn professional services firm employing around 300,000 people and serving 84% of the Fortune Global 500 and 72% of Fortune Global 2000 companies as well as most of FTSE 350 companies. With Steve’s new role, EY has also announced they will be carbon neutral by 31 Dec 2020, demonstrating their commitment to climate matters.

Steve is currently in collaboration with the HRH The Prince of Wales’s new initiative the “Great Reset” including the World Economic Forum in shaping EY’s contribution to measuring stakeholder capitalism. Under Steve’s leadership, EY UK launched the Embankment Project for Inclusive Capitalism. Created by the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism and EY, this project has brought together a collection of participants with both market strength and diversity across the entire investment chain, representing US$30 trillion of assets under management and almost 2 million employees around the world.

Steve joined the firm in 2005 and has nearly 30 years of client and consulting business experience in various sectors including pharmaceuticals, oil & gas and public services. Steve is a member of HM Treasury’s Professional Services Council and has also attended the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council.

Steve is a founding member of the Social Business Trust and a member of its Investment Committee. He is also a member of the International Chamber of Commerce Governing body and is a member of the Productivity Leadership Group (PLG). He is on the board of Loughborough University and a member of the 30% Club where he is an active supporter and speaker on diversity and inclusiveness, believing that a diverse workforce is a commercial imperative for business success.
