Yesterday, BritishAmerican Business, in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia, convened industry and government stakeholders from the UK, US, and Australia to advance discussions on AUKUS’ top priorities.
The annual AUKUS Dialogue, which took place in Washington D.C. on Wednesday March 19th, included delegates from a range of sectors including defence and security, energy, technology and trade.
The roundtable talks explored the strategic goals of AUKUS within the current geopolitical climate and identified AUKUS’ main priorities particularly for progressing Pillar II.
Other discussion topics included funding transparency and rising defence costs as well as country-specific regulatory reforms affecting Pillars I and II such as defence export regulations.
BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards said:
“With new governments in both the UK and the US and increasing geopolitical uncertainty, it is important to reengage and revitalise the AUKUS partnership. Today’s talks were an opportunity for business and government to recommit to AUKUS and reaffirm its importance to our mutual security, sovereignty, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
“By strengthening collaboration between business and government, we can ensure that AUKUS continues to drive innovation, research and technology sharing as well as reinforcing our shared commitment to a more stable and secure future.”
