BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards welcomed Prime Minister Elizabeth Truss to her new role following her election as leader of the Conservative Party, and appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Monday 5 September 2022.
Dear Prime Minister
On behalf of our Board, Advisory Board and more than 400 member companies, including many of the most significant British and American companies, I am pleased to offer our congratulations on your election as leader of the Conservative Party and subsequently as Prime Minister.
We were pleased to have worked with you on a number of occasions when you were Secretary of State for International Trade and as Foreign Secretary and we know how much you recognize the importance of the US UK economic relationship. This relationship is a great driver of economic prosperity for both countries in times of growth and stability and perhaps even more important when the economic conditions are more challenging as they are now.
Our members continue to believe that a trade agreement between the US and UK would benefit the economies of both countries and we will continue to advocate for meaningful negotiations on such an agreement in Washington and London. We also believe that further action can be taken to make trade and investment easier between the two countries outside of a formal agreement and will work with the relevant teams of both countries to identify these opportunities.
We look forward to working with your government and the relevant ministries in any way that we can to encourage an even greater future trade and investment relationship between the US and UK.
With all good wishes
Duncan Edwards
