Laurie Fitzmaurice is the President of a new business launched by the Drax Group in January 2024 focused on becoming the global leader in large scale carbon removals. The business oversees the development and construction of Drax’s BECCS plants in the US and internationally and works with a coalition of strategic partners to focus on the goal of removing 6Mt of CO2 from the atmosphere annually. Laurie possesses nearly 30 years of experience in business development, specializing in energy infrastructure development around the world. She has demonstrated skills building and managing organizations, including the development and implementation of strategic business plans and new market entry with companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500. She also has a deep knowledge of international energy markets and has been actively involved in USD $7.5 billion in energy infrastructure development. Prior to her current role, Laurie was Business Development Lead for Renewables and New Energies in the Americas at Amazon Web Services. She has also held several senior positions including management roles at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), EDF Renewables, Cielo Wind Chile, CE2 Capital Partners, among others.
