In anticipation of the official State visit by the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, BritishAmerican Business CEO, Duncan Edwards, released the following statement:

“On behalf of the transatlantic business community, we welcome the President’s visit to the UK. This visit should remind us all of the importance of the unwavering special relationship between our two countries. That the centrepiece of the visit is the D-Day 75^th Anniversary commemorations in Portsmouth that the President will be attending, is entirely appropriate. Both countries should reflect on the sacrifice of the Allied troops that fought and died during the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944. Such selfless commitment to a resolution of the global crisis epitomises the shared values of our two countries that have largely shaped the global narrative for the last 75 years.

BritishAmerican Business is proud to be the voice of transatlantic trade and investment and support the strong business ties that underpin this relationship today. The President’s visit also serves as a reminder of the role that political partnerships between countries and leaders play to foster job creation and economic growth. Every day, more than 1.5 million people in the UK go to work for a US company; and almost 1.3 million Americans are employed by British businesses there.

It is a critical time for the US and the UK to demonstrate that the relationship transcends temporary political challenges and remains an anchor of stability and emblem of liberty for the world.
