Steve Munro

Global Head of Sanctions Compliance and Financial Crime Emerging Risk, Standard Chartered

Stevenson Munro is the Global Head for Sanctions Compliance and Financial Crime Emerging Risk and is a member of Standard Chartered’s US Management Team.

Steve joined Standard Chartered in 2015 after having held senior financial crime compliance leadership positions at other global financial institutions focusing on the strategy, program design, and implementation of anti-corruption, economic sanctions, and anti-money laundering compliance programs. Mr. Munro previously served as Deputy Chief Counsel for U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) providing legal counsel to OFAC and the U.S. Treasury Department related to the development, implementation, and enforcement of foreign policy based economic sanctions programs.

He earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and practiced law at a large, international law firm in Washington, D.C. prior to joining the U.S. Treasury Department. Mr. Munro also has a Master of Science in strategic intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College and a Bachelor of Science in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Munro started his career as a Military Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army holding positions focused on contingency planning for both tactical and strategic operations, including a posting to the White House Military Office’s Presidential Emergency Operations Center.
